Cuban Dissident Woman Reportedly Beaten up Again

Mayra Morejón Hernandez, a non-violent Cuban woman dissident was reported to have again been beaten up on June 6. Her assailant, whom she described as 'a tall and strong man', warned that it was 'to teach her a lesson'. Ms. Morejón had been previously beaten up on May 23. This time she was allegedly thrown on the floor, burned and struck on the face. Cubaencuentro's report of the most recent attack was based on a conversation with Laura Pollán, a member of las Damas de Blanco, the wives of Cuban political prisoners with whom Ms. Morejón collaborates.

After the attack, Ms. Morejón reportedly walked to a police station near her home in the Plaza de la Revolución municipality but claimed that they 'hardly payed attention to her'. Subsequently she went to a hospital where a medical student informed her that whoever struck her knew martial arts. Miscelaneas de Cuba's report of the first attack also mentions 'martial arts' blows.

Here is the digital banner in which Ms. Morejón had been featured on June 1, 2009.

Strangely, Cubaencuentro.com did not report on the first attack and MiscelaneasDeCuba.net did not report on the second. Hopefully Ms. Morejón or Ms. Pollán will issue a statement clarifying if there have been two attacks or one.
